Switzerland has had some success in Olympic hockey, thriving as underdogs. Simon Moser was credited with a goal that caromed off Latvian defenseman Georgijs Pujacs in front of the net with 7.9 seconds left in the game, lifting Switzerland to a 1-0 win in the Olympic opener for both teams. ''The puck bounced our way at the end,'' said Swiss coach Sean Simpson. The Kontinental Hockey League goaltender and four-time Olympian blocked a shot with his face mask and had it knocked off his head after a goal-mouth scramble.

Although Henrik Sedin and Johan Franzen are out with injuries, Sweden is confident it has young talent just waiting to fill the net.

Goalie Carey Price will start Canada's Olympic opener against Norway on Thursday, and Roberto Luongo will start Friday against Austria. Canada coach Mike Babcock announced his rotation Wednesday after practice in Sochi, but Babcock and both goalies attributed no significance to the order. The coach had previously said both goalies likely would start at least once in the preliminary round before he decides who will backstop Canada during its run at a third gold medal in the last four Olympics. ''Obviously I'm thrilled, and I'm just ready to go,'' said Price, the Montreal Canadiens' three-time All-Star.

Rene Fasel is on a mission to keep hockey in the Olympics as compelling and competitive as possible, and it's going to be a tougher task for the president of the International Ice Hockey Federation in the next four years. The NHL and the players' union have not committed to the next Olympics, in Pyeongchang, South Korea, in 2018. ''I'm going to work hard and do the best I can to get the NHL and NHL players in Pyeongchang,'' Fasel said Tuesday in a telephone interview with The Associated Press. ''But ultimately, that decision will be made by them.'' By ''them,'' of course, he means NHL owners and its players.
