Marshawn Lynch said Thursday it will be good to get back to football after the Seattle quiet talking running back wrapped up his final mandatory media session of Super Bowl week. He talked for less than 7 minutes at both media day on Tuesday and the media session at the team hotel on Wednesday. ''Real good.'' Lynch limited his answers to football-related questions, all with Seahawks fullback Michael Robinson by his side. Lynch's aversion to speaking with the media had become a major focal point as the Seahawks started their preparations for Sunday's game against Denver.

The NFL says the number of concussions in practices and games in the preseason and regular season dropped 13 percent from 2012 to 2013. Using information collected from team doctors, the league also says there was a 23 percent decrease over the past two seasons in the number of concussions caused by helmet-to-helmet contact. Speaking at a pre-Super Bowl news conference Thursday, Jeff Miller, the league's senior VP of health and safety policy, calls the data ''positive trends.'' Some players have expressed concern that the NFL's emphasis on decreasing hits to the head could lead to more low hits and more knee injuries.

NASCAR creates winner-take-all championship format (Yahoo Sports)

NASCAR overhauled its championship format Thursday, creating an elimination, winner-take-all system designed to reward ''the most battle-tested'' driver at the end of the season. The remaining four drivers will go to the season finale with an equal chance to win the championship: The first of the four drivers to cross the finish line will be crowned Sprint Cup champion. It's as simple as it gets,'' NASCAR Chairman Brian France said. It's the fourth and most radical change to either the points or championship format since France created the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship system in 2004.

Virginia coach Tony Bennett installed a new play late last month for end-of-game situations, but he didn't have much confidence in. Maybe Malcolm Brogdon was saving himself for a big moment. ''I guess it's better to make it in a game.'' Brogdon came off screen and drained a 3-pointer with 0.4 seconds remaining to lift the visiting Cavaliers a 48-45 victory. The play is designed for either Brogdon or Joe Harris, the team's top 3-point shooter.

Coach Tom Crean added another responsibility to Ferrell's plate Sunday: guarding the opponent's top scorer. Ferrell came through on both ends - scoring 27 points and shutting down Nik Stauskas - to lead Indiana to a 63-52 upset of No. 10 Michigan. ''He's a true lead guard with everything he does.'' Against the Wolverines, that was just about everything. ''This is a great win because Michigan is such a great team,'' Ferrell said.

Less than five months after having back surgery, Wimbledon champion Andy Murray propelled Britain into the next round of the Davis Cup and earned some time off. Murray beat Sam Querrey 7-6 (5), 6-7 (3), 6-1, 6-3 to clinch Britain's opening-round victory against the United States on Sunday at Petco Park. ''I'm proud of the way I'm playing just now, because I had to do a lot of work to get back to where I want to be,'' Murray said after celebrating with his teammates on the red clay court in a temporary stadium in left field of the downtown home of baseball's San Diego Padres.

Arizona lost a game and most likely its No. 1 ranking. Forward Brandon Ashley is out for the season after injuring his right foot in a 60-58 loss to California, a game that will likely knock the Wildcats down the rankings after eight straight weeks at No. 1. ''Last night, early in our Cal game, Brandon Ashley suffered a foot injury that will end his season,'' Arizona coach Sean Miller said in a statement Sunday. This adversity will ultimately make Brandon and our team stronger moving forward.'' Arizona (21-1, 8-1 Pac-12) went into the game on a school-record 21-game winning streak after holding off Stanford on Wednesday to start the two-game Northern California swing.

Best defense in NFL carries Seattle to title (Yahoo Sports)

Richard Sherman felt the need to apologize. It's a dream come true.'' Led by its All-Pro cornerback, Seattle's ''Legion of Boom'' secondary and the nastiest defense in the NFL proved the strength of the Seahawks was greater than the record-setting arm of Peyton Manning in their stunning 43-8 rout on Sunday night. After two weeks of so much attention landing at Sherman's feet for what happened at the end of the NFC championship game, his Super Bowl night was rather uneventful. Manning wasn't about to mess with arguably the best cornerback in the NFL.
