Swedish hockey captain Henrik Zetterberg will miss the rest of the Sochi Games because of a herniated disk. ''What he's going through right now, it hurts just to watch him,'' Olympic and Detroit Red Wings teammate Niklas Kronwall said after a 1-0 win Friday over Switzerland. ''He goes through more than most people just to be able to play.'' Zetterberg played through pain and scored a goal in the Swedes' opening victory over the Czech Republic on Wednesday, but sat out of Thursday's practice because of his back injury. ''It is so painful for him that he can't be in it anymore,'' team doctor Bjorn Waldeback said.

The win came on Daniel Alfredsson's goal with 7:21 left and Henrik Lundqvist's 26-save shutout. ''We are among those teams who can win this tournament anyway,'' Sweden coach Par Marts said.

On the eve of his 42nd birthday, Jaromir Jagr again showed why age is a pretty small number to him. Jagr scored his second goal of the Olympics, Jakub Voracek got the tiebreaker in the second period, and the Czech Republic survived an early scare Friday for a 4-2 victory over Latvia in the men's hockey tournament. He got two goals in his first four periods in Sochi, and his steady play allowed the Czechs to hold off Latvia's upset bid. Jagr appeared to be the Czechs' best forward in their first victory in Sochi, buzzing around the ice and causing havoc with his timeless flair.
